CANADA DAY Canada Day, July 1, is one of the most exciting days in North Rustico. It is a day of celebration, fun, laughter and good times. It is a day for friends and family to gather and enjoy the day with loved ones. Canada Day is packed with activities, music, and fireworks. Enjoy a meal at one of our local restaurants or pack a picnic to share outside. The Canada Day Celebrations in North Rustico are one of the highlights of the year and attracts 10 000 people to the community annually. Some visitors have been returning for more than 20 years. It is a non-commercial day that is fun for people of all ages. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 9:30 Interfaith Service at Centennial Park 10:30 Parade down Main Street. The parade starts at the Gulf Shore School and ends at the North Shore Arena. The theme this year is “We Celebrate our Canadian Olympians”. This year Cooke Insurance will have “Stuff the Bus” in the parade. Please bring in your non-perishable food items and support our local Food Banks. 12:00 Flag Raising and singing of O Canada at Centennial Park 12:15 Grandstand and booths open. Leon Gallant performs. Games for all ages. 12:15 Dump Road Derby (homemade go-kart races) – Timber Lane 1:00 On the Grandstand – Jamie Buote followed by Gordon Belsher and Cynthia MacLeod 2:00 Bingo in the Fire Hall (open to all ages) – 50/50 3:00 On the Grandstand – Stage Fright 4:20 Pie Eating Contest 4:30 Individual and Group Prize Draws to be announced from the Grandstand 4:30 On the Grandstand – Kim Albert Band 6:00 Boat Parade Begins at the Bay and travels out onto the Gulf of St. Lawrence 7:00 All remaining prizes to be drawn and announced 7:00 On the Grandstand – Kickin’ Country Dusk Fireworks display over Rustico Bay It takes a lot of effort to make Canada Day in North Rustico an enjoyable experience for all. If you would like to help out by volunteering some time, the Committee would appreciate your help. As Canada Day approaches, and even on Canada Day itself, there is still an opportunity to volunteer.
