Acadian Harvest - Rustico
As part of the Fall Flavors Festival, The Farmers’ Bank of Rustico Museum & Doucet house will be hosting a variety of activities from Saturday, September 18th to Saturday, September 25th, 2010 as part of this years Fall Flavors festival. This Acadian Harvest in Rustico will include a traditional Acadian soirée (kitchen party) with music and dance, searching for the best home-made meat pie in Rustico, a presentation on the preservation of some traditional island foods, a demonstration about the traditional Acadian crop gardens at the historic Doucet house, and more harvest-themed events.
Saturday, September 18 - 10:00 am - 1:00 pm:
Preparing a traditional Acadian meal at the historic Doucet house. Cooking stew over the open hearth and fresh bread in the outdoor clay bake oven! Children's activities including trivia games and treasure hunts! Learn techniques and flavours of traditional Acadian cuisine such as bannock, clam chowder, Acadian chicken fricot, and baked apple dumplings. Admission is charged. Monday, September 20 - 9:30 am - 3:30 pm:
Learn the traditional art of basket weaving with the professional basket weavers of the Island Traditions Store in Richmond, PEI. Follow along with the instructors to create your own personalized basket to take home with you. Cost is $40.00 for supplies. Optional lunch package is an additional $13.95 (+ taxes) or bring your own lunch.
Tuesday, September 21 - 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm:
Robert Pendergast will present a bread making demonstration at the Doucet house overlooking the beautiful Rustico Bay. Listen to his entertaining stories and songs from PEI and sample delicious foods made right infront of you in a traditional outdoor bread oven. Admission is $15.00 per adult, $10.00 per child under 12, $12.00 per student over 12, $40.00 per family of four (2 adults and 2 children under 12 - each additional child under 12 is $5.00).
Thursday, September 23 - 5:00 pm:
The Farmers' Bank Museum and Doucet house will be one of the five stops in the North Store Culinary Tasting Tour as part of the Fall Flavors Festival! Tickets are on sale now at the Farmers' Bank Museum or online at www.fallflavors.ca.
